On behalf of the staff, thank you to Mrs. King, Mollie Hileman, Stephanie Elmore,
Hannah Logan, Ashley Brown, Christina Woods, Aleacha Wallington, Megan Brown,
Alicia Hanshew, Amanda Workman, Sam Wilson, Annie Barb, Emilee Pack, Sinead Balnionis, Season Jones, Kristen Shockey, April Williams and Paula Grim for the amazing luncheon today as well as the gift cards used for last week's Survivor Challenge organized by Mrs. King. I think the entire staff had a blast participating in the challenge and today's lunch was delicious. We appreciate each and every one of you for you support this week and every day through out the year!

How cute is this end of the year bulletin board?!?!?

Congratulations to our April Pirate Girl, Sophia Schoolcraft and Pirate Boy, Noah Williams.

Friday, April 28th, 5 students traveled to Greenbrier East High School to participate in the 2023 Greenbrier County Showcase of the Arts. We are so proud of these students for their hard work through the school year in preparation for this event!!

The Greenbrier County 4-H Teen Leaders hosted a Humane Society donation drive April 17th-27th. The Frankford students worked with them to collect goodies for the animals. The Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade group won by a landslide, collecting 397 items. The 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade group collected 75 items. The Humane Society was extremely grateful for the donations.

Mrs. Cantley's class has been learning about 3D shapes. They even made their own 3D models.

Students in 1st and 2nd grade music began learning about John Cage and his ideas about music this past week. They all brought their own found percussion instruments to school, and practiced playing an Ostinato on those instruments. We thank John Cage for having these ideas that allow us to use Mac and Cheese and instruments!

Don't forget....

Our 5th graders traveled to Carnegie Hall today with music teacher, Mrs. McCoy to participate in LinkUp. They listened and played along with the West Virginia University Symphony Orchestra!

We are 7 chapters in and the students are loving Aven Green Baking Machine. The students in Mrs. Wellman's class wanted to see what it would be like for Aven to draw. They tried to draw cupcakes with their feet!

Today is Purple Up Day! Students are wearing purple to show support for our military students.

Thank you to People's Bank for the amazing donation of school supplies!

GCS and WV State University's Healthy Grandfamilies program invite grandparents raising grandchildren to join us at The Marvel Center in Rupert (138 Cranberry Ave.) on April 20 from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. to view a short film from LegalAid highlighting available services and resources. Lunch provided! Call 304-920-0601 with any questions.

When the students returned from Spring Break, we kicked off our One School, One Book program with "Aven Green Baking Machine". Aven is an 8 year old expert baker. The catch is, she doesn't have arms! While reading the book, Mrs. Stidom's Pre-K class decided to see what it would be like if they didn't have any arms. They practiced picking up things with their feet! What an exciting way to see how Aven has to do things in her everyday life.

Before Spring Break students were rewarded with an exciting kick ball competition. It came down to the 5th graders against the teachers. It was a blast and the teachers are proud to say, we won 24-5!!! Thank you to the Student Council for organizing this amazing event.

Love to see the parrots on the Accelerated Reader boards move!

If you ordered Pirate Gear one coming home today!

School libraries transform learning! April 2023 has been designated the 38th Annual National School Library Month. Please join GCS in celebrating our school libraries and their vital role in providing resources and encouraging growth and knowledge. #SchoolLibraryMonth

Congratulations to our March Pirate Girl, Anna Pack and Pirate Boy, Conner Humphreys!
